Those of us who grew up watching the Family channel may have
felt a little nostalgic this weekend…
On Saturday morning, I was scrolling through my Twitter feed
and I saw someone retweet Teen Nick’s video called #WhatDidZoeySay, a new
episode of Zoey 101. Excitement came over me as fond memories of the days when I
used to watch this show inundated my thoughts.
This past Friday, September 18 marked 10 years since Zoey (Jaime
Lynn Spears) buried a DVD revealing her feelings for her friend Chase (Sean
Flynn) in the PCA time capsule. Those who invested much of their tween years into
this television show were finally put at ease after learning what was said on
that DVD. Speaking for myself and other Zoey 101 fans alike, I was absolutely
devastated (I’m exaggerating a bit) when the show went off air in 2008 due to
Jaime Lynn Spears’ pregnancy. So it was nice that the producer connected with
fans after to so many years with this 5-minute episode.
Social media is really a driving force for getting things
out there and connecting people together, which to me are some of the positive
traits of social media. This episode is trending on Facebook and has over 5
million views on YouTube. Many of my friends shared the episode on Facebook expressing similar excitement. This really speaks volumes of the fan
base that the show had and how much of an affect it had on viewers after so
many years.

I was so excited when I saw that this was an actually thing. I first heard about it on twitter, but it was just a tweet from teen nick hinting that they might be releasing something in regards to Zoey 101. Whether or not this episode aired on Teen Nicks TV broadcasting channels, through the power of social media alone, this excerpt has become widely popular among Zoey 101 fans. It goes to show how influential these social networking sites have become, allowing a 5 minute clip from a show that has been off the air for 7 years to get millions of views on youtube within a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteThanks Thandi for the share!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I cannot believe that this video aired online. Being a huge Zoey101 fan when I was in elementary school, I was disappointed when it was taken off air considering I watched daily. Seeing this five-minute clip immediately brought back a rush many memories the show brought me as a young preteen. Everyday I would patiently wait to watch Zoey101 on family channel after school because PCA had been depicted as the ideal school in the beautiful sunny state of California I wished I was living in at that time. Seeing this short minute clip that followed up with one of the most iconic episodes in this television series made me want more! The inner preteen in me hopes that there will be a continuation of this clip because I’m sure that myself along with millions of others are wondering what happens when Chase finds Zoey!
Thanks Thandi for sharing! I can relate to this too, similar thing happened to me when I was scrolling my twitter feed I saw a link for this video, clicked it and it really took me back to my childhood. I also read online that the day this video was released it was the most viewed clip on Youtube that day. Crazy how many of us grew up loving and watching this show and how ten years later we're still excited to see our favorite characters reunited in a short video.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they make another one!
I first saw the link to this clip on my Facebook newsfeed, and I was in disbelief that the link was real. This clip was not anything that I was expecting, although it was very nostalgic to see Chase and Micheal again on screen. Zoey 101 used to be one of my favourite shows to watch on Family channel, and I always secretly hoped that Chase would one day get to see the video that Zoey made for him.
ReplyDeleteI'm also really hoping that there will be a continuation to the video!
I absolutely loved this post, I too use to be quite the Zoey 101 fan. I had no idea that this video was made until I saw it here, I think it really shows how well media forms such as blogs, Twitter, and Facebook are at sharing and spreading things with the world. I'll be honest I'm hoping that there will be another video to help better tie the ending but I do believe that this 10 years later clip was possible to make because of YouTube. If satellite television was the only way for us to view something like this it would have needed to get a time slot and would have probably have been much more expensive than it was to upload it on the internet.
