For my first blogpost for Social Media and Social Life I've decided to share "Tilt" with all of you. Tilt is a startup company that specializes in crowd funding online. Since 2012 Tilt has had over 300,000 groups use Tilt to make their ideas (big and small) become a reality. Their tag line is "make it happen with Tilt" with the intent of having numerous people visit the page, support the idea, cause, event or item being sold and pitch money whether its 1$ or 100$ to make the campaign a success.
Throughout our Communication Studies there have been multiple examples and analyses of groups coming together to communicate and pool resources to reach a particular goal, and Tilt is most certainly a modern method of doing so.

Crowdfunding sites such as TILT are an *extremely* important part of our contemporary social media ecosystem. As such, they are potentially a great subject for a group project. *as long as you are not officially tied to them in any way" ;)
ReplyDeleteHey this is a really interesting app! Their marketing techniques make you want to try it because they give an incentive of $20. I have seen other crowdfunding opportunities that help raise money for cancer patients that cannot afford treatments or medication. Crowdfunding is an excellent opportunity to raise money for a good cause. Usually when it comes to money people don’t commit so these applications can help show commitment and results. This application is also really useful for students when it comes to paying student housing bills. You can easily keep track of all your bills and have a record of who has paid. Overall this is a very interesting post!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura!
DeleteThanks for your reply- I agree that their marketing tactics are effective (seeing as they got me as a student to try it out) and now I'm hooked! The website is super easy and there's lots of incentives for using it.
I'm curious as to which other crowdfunding sites you've heard of?
(besides GoFundMe which I mentioned in the blog post) Glad you enjoyed! :)
