Blog Post #1 - Lip Sync Battle

Hi Everyone,

For my first blog post I decided to share a Lip Sync Battle between Jimmy Fallon and Ellen DeGeneres. I'm not a huge Youtube connoisseur, but this video is definitely one of my favourites! As you may know, Jimmy Fallon hosts various celebrities on his show. The Lip Sync Battle involves Jimmy going to head to head with one of his celebrity guests in a lip sync competition in order to win over the audience.

Youtube is a great platform to disseminate information and videos to the public. Social media platforms such as Youtube have enabled the world to become a much smaller place where information can be easily shared and accessible.

  1. Hey!

I totally agree that YouTube is a great way to share information because they are so easily accessible and have the ability to go viral through sharing to numerous social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Personally, I love that you posted this video because it shows why Ellen is one of my favourite talk show hosts. She always discovers entertaining YouTube videos and uses her popularity to share them with the world. These videos get a lot of attention from the public which usually results in benefits for the creator. For instance, Ellen will invite them on her show, listen to their story and provide entertaining or need fulfilling gifts. Apart from being a hilarious comedian that constantly entertains us, she uses mediums such as the internet, more specifically YouTube and her TV network to make a difference in the world in a lighthearted way!

  2. Here is a question: at what point does a link, clip, image or meme "go viral"? Is it a question of quantity in terms of how many times it is shared? Or is is quality in terms of "buzz" and awareness? Thoughts?

    1. From my personal experience I believe that links, clip, images and memes go viral as a result of multiple shares on social media. I originally saw this video due to many Facebook friends sharing it on the platform. Once it has been shared numerous times I believe it becomes popular and creates a form of 'buzz'.
